Maintenance & Support
Ongoing care for software in production: monitoring, updates, security patches, bug fixes and small improvements, in any technology stack.
The problem
The software was delivered, the team moved on, and now nobody owns it.
Dependencies are years out of date, a security advisory arrives and there is no one to assess it, and a small change takes weeks because the original developers are unavailable. Hosting bills creep up, backups are untested, and an outage is discovered by customers before anyone internal notices. Perhaps the system was built by a vendor who is no longer around, or in a technology your current team does not know. You need a reliable partner who will take ownership and keep it healthy.
What we do
- Take-over of existing applications, including ones built by other teams
- Monitoring, alerting and uptime checks so you hear about problems first
- Security patches, dependency and framework upgrades on a planned schedule
- Bug fixes and small enhancements through an agreed request process
- Backup, restore testing and disaster-recovery procedures
- Hosting and cloud cost reviews, with right-sizing where it is safe
- Documentation and knowledge transfer so you are never locked in
How the work runs
-
Step 1: Discover the current state
We audit the code, infrastructure, dependencies, backups and documentation, and list the risks in plain language so you know exactly what you are running.
-
Step 2: Evaluate what needs attention
We prioritise findings by business impact: what could cause an outage or breach, what slows down change, and what can safely wait, with options for each.
-
Step 3: Recommend a support plan
You get a proposed support arrangement: response expectations, included activities, upgrade schedule and reporting, with the reasoning behind each item, before anything is agreed.
-
Step 4: Stabilise, then support
We fix the urgent items first, set up monitoring and backups, then move to steady ongoing care with regular reports, so the system stays secure and current.

Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions we hear most about this service. Anything else, ask us directly at [email protected].
Yours. Maintenance means working in the stack your system is already built with, whether that is PHP, .NET, Java, Python, Node.js or something less common. We are not tied to one technology, and if a component should eventually be replaced, we will recommend the right technology for your project and explain why.
Yes, this is a common starting point. We begin with a technical audit to understand the code, infrastructure and risks, then agree a take-over plan. Access to source code, hosting accounts and any documentation makes the hand-over faster, but we can also work from incomplete records. Write to [email protected] to start.
Response and resolution expectations are agreed in your support plan and depend on the severity of the issue and the level of cover you choose. [OWNER: state standard response targets, e.g. critical issues acknowledged within X hours.] We work with clients worldwide, in any time zone, and set the coverage window around your business hours.
Both are possible. A retainer suits systems that need continuous monitoring, regular updates and predictable response times. On-demand support suits stable systems that need occasional changes. We will recommend the arrangement that matches how critical the software is to your business, and you can change it as your needs evolve.
